The Cake is a Lie...
I am a biology guy with a computer science hobby. However, when I got to graduate school, I really found that my passion for research lies more in the programming realm than the biological.
Incidentally, I witnessed that other scientists were coding all around me within my bioinformatics and computational biology department. While we were all good scientists doing great science, we tended to be bad coders.
I wanted to fix that. Modeling my PyLIE group after Code Carpentry, I developed a group of co-learners aimed at learning industry-standard code and coding practices. With this goal in mind, we would not only become better coders (and, as a corollary, better scientists), but also more viable on the job market following our graduation.
